Apostille for Serbian documents, without a trip to court

An apostille is a certificate that confirms the authenticity of a public document issued in Serbia so that it is recognised in other countries party to the Hague Apostille Convention. We handle the whole procedure: we check which court is competent, submit the document, collect it with the apostille and, if needed, arrange a certified translation.

Who issues apostilles in Serbia

Apostilles are issued by the basic courts (osnovni sud), and jurisdiction depends on where the authority that issued the document is seated. A birth extract issued in Niš, for example, is apostilled at the Basic Court in Niš, even if you live in Belgrade or abroad. Documents of some national authorities follow a different procedure.

This is where time is usually lost: a document is taken to the wrong court, or the apostille is placed on the wrong copy. Before submitting, we check jurisdiction and the requirements of the destination country.

Documents that can be apostilled

  • Civil register extracts and citizenship certificates
  • Diplomas, graduation certificates and school certificates
  • Criminal record certificates and other police and court certificates
  • Court rulings, decisions and other judgments
  • Documents certified by a notary public (powers of attorney, statements, certified copies)
  • Court interpreter translations, when the destination country requires an apostille on the translation

Apostille or legalisation?

An apostille is only valid in countries party to the Hague Convention, including all EU member states, Switzerland, the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia, Russia, China, Japan and many others. Countries that are not parties, such as the United Arab Emirates or Qatar, require full legalisation through the ministries and the embassy. If you are unsure, we will check for you.

Price and timing

The price depends on the number of documents, the competent court, whether a translation is needed and the delivery method. We assess each request individually and send you the total price, including fees, in advance.

Frequently asked questions

Can an apostille be put on a photocopy?

Not on a plain photocopy. It can be placed on a copy certified by a notary public, because the apostille then confirms the notary's certification. Whether such a copy is acceptable depends on the institution abroad.

Which comes first, the apostille or the translation?

Usually the apostille on the original first, followed by a certified translation of the document together with the apostille. Some countries also require an apostille on the translation. We check the order before we start.

Can I get an apostille while living abroad?

Yes. Send us the original by courier or authorise us to obtain the document on your behalf; we return the apostilled document and translation to your address abroad.
